The Governance of Regional Economic Development

It is increasingly recognised that successful regional economic development depends upon building quality into the processes through which it is managed. Across the UK, institutional change is providing an opportunity to take a fresh approach.

In recent years, Fraser Associates has helped agencies and partnerships to strengthen their process by:

  • facilitating in the development of strategy to help ensure that resources are focused on key priorities and on an appropriate scale.
  • devising project selection processes and criteria that promote quality by discriminating between proposals that are fundamentally sound and those that are merely well presented.
  • preparing and providing training and other support in implementing performance measurement frameworks and monitoring procedures.
  • assisting agencies to align their cultures and processes with the requirements of different funding regimes.

The experience of our team in management issues includes:

  • Delivery of training on embedding evaluation thinking in project development: Advantage West Midlands.
  • development of programme-level performance measurement frameworks: One NorthEast.
  • review of management information systems: Government Office for the West Midlands.
  • review of Private Sector Participation in European Programmes: National Assembly for Wales.
  • training of Civil Servants in programme design and management: Government of Romania.
  • review of representation in Brussels and European Information services: Greater London Authority.
